After the chaos of Manila it was nice to get out of very big cities. After a very short flight you take a motorbike with a side car attached to the port where you board a small ferry to the island. Boracay is really small. When I got off the ferry I got a ride on the back of a scooter to my hotel. Maybe 10 minutes total. I stayed at a small beautiful hotel with a pool in the courtyard that was a 2 minute walk to the beach. The white sand beaches and turquoise waters go on for miles. Along the beach are resorts and restaurants and bars etc. It's a very nice layout for vacation. I definitely explored every part of White Beach. Good cheap food was also easy to be found. Great seafood, local dishes with meat and rice, tasty burgers and pizza, fresh fruit smoothies and some decent omelettes too. My last breakfast on island was like stir fry dish with rice. I knew the meat was pork but it was extra chewy... I asked the waitress what it is and she informed me it was pigs ears... Probably my first and last time for that! Another lost in translation moment happened at a different breakfast when I ordered an omelette with veggies and ham/cheese... Since they only had veggie omelettes and ham and cheese omelettes on the menu the concept of combining all the ingredients was very foreign so the essentially made me a jumbo omelette, with maybe 7-8 eggs and all the things and charged me for both ha.
So much to say about Boracay but don't want to bore (acay) anyone... Sunset is total madness everyday.... Everyone emerges out of nowhere for this daily ritual with 100 sailboats going back and forth along the bay... My favorite beach bar was a shanty seemingly run by 8yr olds slinging San Miguel's for just over a dollar... 7:30am Super Bowl Monday morning was a total trip, I crammed in the back of an expats bar with about 30 other people and cheered for not the Chiefs... Puka Shell beach on the very north end of the island ended up being another major highlight.
I do have to say that Filipino people are super nice and respectful. I have never been called "sir" more times in life... Also the old white dude and young Filipino gal is definitely a thing still...
